The Latin American mid-market is accelerating the creation of offshore captive solutions, driven by the growing sophistication of expanding Multi-Latinas. By integrating these vehicles directly with global reinsurance markets, regional enterprises are securing distinct risk-management advantages and strategic financial autonomy. This session brings together key industry players to discuss the operational shift from fragmented local policies to centralized single-parent captives, showing how corporate groups can pool multi-jurisdictional risks, and transform premium expenses into profitable internal financial assets.

Direct Market Access: How a captive allows a Multi-Latina to avoid expensive local insurance company markups and purchase risk capacity directly from global reinsurance markets at wholesale prices.
Centralized Risk Sophistication & Consolidation: Enterprises replace fragmented, country-by-country insurance policies with a unified offshore captive structure to aggregate and optimize risk across borders.
Internal Capital Retention: Corporate groups transform standard insurance expenses into strategic financial assets, retaining underwriting profits and investment income within the business rather than losing them to third-party commercial insurers.
Governance and Regulatory Substance: Beyond the financial case, the viability of a captive rests on choosing the right domicile and meeting economic-substance and governance requirements - increasingly the deciding factor in whether a structure delivers on its promise.

Fronting and reinsurance remain key challenges for captive owners, even in a soft market with abundant capital. Securing the right partners and negotiating workable terms can be complex, particularly for difficult-to-place lines of coverage.

This session brings together two industry veterans for a candid discussion from the front lines of the captive marketplace. Speakers will examine who is fronting and reinsuring captives, which coverage lines present the toughest challenges, and why available capital does not always translate into an easy placement. The discussion will explore practical considerations for approaching providers, navigating negotiations, and positioning captive programs to thrive in 2027.

Following this session, attendees will be able to identify potential fronting and reinsurance partners, recognize coverage areas that may require a more targeted approach, and better prepare for negotiations that support their captive’s risk financing objectives.

A captive changes who finances healthcare risk—but it does not, by itself, change the healthcare system creating that risk. Once employers assume greater financial responsibility for healthcare claims, clinical quality, provider selection, site of care, pharmacy strategy, timely intervention and price become risk-management issues. In this fireside conversation, an employee-benefits and reinsurance executive and a veteran nurse healthcare strategist will examine what happens after the employer owns the risk—and how captive owners can influence the healthcare decisions that ultimately become claims. Attendees will leave with a practical framework for moving beyond financing healthcare risk toward actively managing it.

Following this session, attendees will be able to distinguish between financing healthcare risk and actively managing the clinical, provider, pharmacy, site-of-care and pricing decisions that generate claims, identify healthcare cost and quality drivers that captive owners can influence through evidence-based care, timely intervention, objective provider quality, appropriate site of care and transparent pricing, and apply a practical Five Rights framework—Right Patient, Right Care, Right Time, Right Place and Right Price—to evaluate healthcare strategies and determine whether interventions are actually improving patient outcomes and captive performance.

When a catastrophic claim hits, what happens in the early stages often decides whether the story that gets told is the captive's own, or one that is told about it. This panel goes inside real catastrophic losses to show how disciplined claims strategy works hand in hand with coordinated communication to claimants, regulators, reinsurers, and the board. From triage to reserving to litigation management, every aspect of what to do and not to do will be covered. Panelists have sat on multiple sides of a catastrophic claim and will bring attendees a lived perspective on how to build their own catastrophic claims response plan.

Following this presentation, audience members will be able to build a response protocol for catastrophic claims that aligns claims, legal, and communications teams before a crisis forces them to improvise, pinpoint the early reserving and litigation-management decisions that most influence a catastrophic claim's ultimate cost, duration, and reputational impact, and design a stakeholder communications plan — for claimants, regulators, reinsurers, and the board — that keeps the captive in control of its own story.

Many risks, ranging from supply-chain interruptions due to agricultural commodity production shortfalls to loss of access due to geopolitical action to cyber liabilities, are very difficult for captives to manage, since losses are intangible and therefore hard for conventional risk transfer markets to measure and assume. Parametric (or index-based) reinsurances provide a solution by insuring events, rather than losses. The proposed session explains the breadth of loss events which can be insured using parametric structures, how indexes are constructed to maximize the match between loss and payment, and provides real-world examples of the use of parametric insurance by captives.

Following this session, attendees will be able to reduce uninsured exposures through parametric risk transfer, understand how parametric structures are already used by captives to transfer difficult risks, and understand how parametric insurance could complement their existing reinsurance protections.

Setting premiums for captive insurance companies is one of the most important, and often most challenging, aspects of building a successful captive program. Developing premiums that are commercially reasonable, actuarially sound, and defensible requires the combined perspectives of insurance, actuarial, underwriting, and tax professionals. The session will explore three practical categories of risk:
(1) common risks with credible loss history that are relatively straightforward to price;
(2) common risks where limited or no direct loss experience requires greater reliance on market benchmarks and underwriting judgment;
(3) emerging or alternative market risks where traditional loss history, broker quotes, commercial pricing, or comparable market data may be limited or unavailable.

Through real-world examples, attendees will learn how actuarial methodologies, underwriting judgment, exposure analysis, commercial market information, policy design, risk margins, and thorough documentation work together to support premium development that should meet the expectations of auditors, regulators, and the IRS.

Following this session, attendees will leave with a clearer understanding of developing pricing that reflects genuine insurance economics and well-documented files that tells a credible insurance story and avoids characterization of a premium designed to achieve a tax objective.
