Panel discussion with three industry leaders and a moderator. Discussion of detailed real-world examples of what DEI programs and initiatives have been successful in their organizations, backed by data and metrics. The discussion will focus on how attendees can implement these programs in their own organizations.

The hour-long panel discussion will be followed by a one-hour chat where attendees can network and interact with the panelists.

Even seasoned professionals are lacking in networking skills. Some are born with this talent, but most are not. The impact on one’s career development is not easily measured, but those who practice networking on a regular basis definitely have an advantage. Learn how your skills can be improved and positively impact your career path. Sean Gleason and Teresa Chan, two DEI Institute Board members, both very adept at networking, will host this workshop and bring two different perspectives to the conversation.

A networking and welcome cocktail reception for all attendees of the conference. 

Day two of the conference will kick off with a conversation between Susan Johnson, Chief Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Officer at The Hartford, and Michael Chang, Head of Corporate Risk & Broking, North America at WTW. 

Five distinguished leaders of various DEI associations will discuss the reasons why so few people of color have moved into senior positions in the insurance industry, and how these associations and others can work together with the corporate sector to effect systemic change. The leaders will represent the Multicultural (Re)Insurance Association, the Chinese American Insurance Association, the National African American Insurance Association, the Asian American Insurance Network and the Latin Agents & Brokers Association.

This hour-long session will be followed by a 45-minute open session for questions and interaction.

The role of the Chief Diversity Officer is complex and difficult. The average CDO lasts only 1.8 years before moving to another company or changing careers. This panel will explore the reasons behind DEI burnout in addition to discussing how today’s political climate may be affecting DEI initiatives.
