What are Business Insurance's U.S. Insurance Awards?

A recognition program launched in 2017 that highlights the achievements of insurance and risk management professionals. Most of the awards recognize the achievements of teams of professionals working on specific projects or programs. 

The awards program also celebrates the annual Innovation Award winners, which are in their 15th year, celebrate innovative new products and services designed for risk managers.

Lastly, the U.S. Insurance Awards program annually names a Lifetime Achievement Hall of Fame recipient.

When will the awards be presented?

At a gala dinner in New York on July 18, 2024. The dinner, which will also see the presentation of the 2024 Lifetime Achievement Award and 2024 Innovation Award winners.

How can I make a nomination for the U.S. Insurance Awards or Innovation Awards?

Nominations must be submitted using the online submission portal.

Who can make a nomination?

Anyone familiar with the nominees can make the nomination.

When does the nomination process end?

The nomination submission deadline has been extended to Tuesday, April 30, 2024. Submissions are due by 11:59pm EST.

When will the winners be notified?

Finalists will be notified by mid-May, but the winners will not be announced until the awards dinner.

How will the nominees be judged?

Business Insurance editors will review the nominations and narrow them down to finalists. A panel of up to 100 professional risk managers will review the finalists and selects the winners.

The Innovation Awards are scored exclusively by a panel of risk managers. The winners will be announced in May and the awards will be presented at U.S. Insurance Awards event.

What makes a good nomination?

Nominations that provide a clear narrative combined with facts and data to support the assertions in the narrative — for example, reduced total cost of risk by xx%, conceived and launched a new product, reduced claims by $xxx, increased revenue by $xxx, cut claims payment/policy issuance time by xx days. Remember, the judges likely will not be familiar with details of the team’s work and they will be making their assessments based on the 500-word descriptions that you provide. All the judges are knowledgeable about insurance and risk management, but they are not experts in all fields, so avoid jargon where possible. Concrete examples are easier to understand than conceptual descriptions. 

I want to nominate a team, but can I remain anonymous?

No, we need to know who you are, though we don’t share nominator information with any third parties.

Will more than one nomination from the same company be accepted?

You can nominate multiple teams from one company, providing they all meet the criteria for each category.

Will I be informed if my nomination is not selected as a finalist?

We do not contact unsuccessful applicants; however, the full list of finalists will be available at BusinessInsurance.com in mid-May.
