Michel Léonard, PhD, CBE, is Chief Economist and Data Scientist at the Insurance Information Institute where he provides insight on insurance economics and forward-looking, data driven analysis. He brings more than twenty years of insurance experience working closely with underwriters, brokers and risk managers modeling risk exposures for property-casualty and specialty lines. He held senior and leadership positions in the industry such as Chief Economist for Trade Credit and Political Risk at Aon; Chief Economist at Jardine Lloyd Thompson; Chief Economist and Data Scientist at Alliant; and Chief Data Scientist at MaKro LLC.

In addition to Triple-I, Dr. Léonard is adjunct faculty in New York University' Economics Department. Previous academic appointments include Adjunct Faculty at NYU's Center for Data Science and Columbia University's Data Science Institute and Statistics Department. He was the recipient of a grant from the Spencer Educational Foundation and is a member of the Insurance Research Council Advisory Board. Michel holds a B.A. from McGill University, a M.T.S. from Harvard University, and a M.A. and Ph.D. in Political Economy from the University of Virginia.
