Joe Petrelli is the President and a cofounder of Demotech, Inc. Organized in 1985, Demotech, Inc. is a Columbus, Ohio based financial analysis company. In 1989, Demotech became the first to review and rate independent, regional and specialty insurers. On July 11, 2022, Demotech, Inc., the company founded by Joe and his wife and business partner, Sharon Romano Petrelli, CPCU, AIAF, ARC, CCP, was registered with the United States Securities and Exchange Commission as a nationally recognized statistical rating organization (NRSRO) in the class of Insurance Companies. By doing so, Demotech was registered as the tenth NRSRO; joining S&P, Moody’s, A M Best and seven other NRSROs.

Prior to forming Demotech, Petrelli was employed by a national carrier, regional carrier and the predecessor of ISO, now Verisk. Petrelli is a member in good standing of the Casualty Actuarial Society, American Academy of Actuaries, and the Society of Actuaries.

In March, 2022, subsequent to a validation of the review and analysis process utilized by Demotech, Inc., Joe created the research project, undertaken by Todd Kozikowski, that led to the discovery of the online business model of tech-enabled claim instigation. Undiscovered and in place since about 2017, this business model has tanked carriers, destroyed entire insurance markets, led to the creation of Alternative Business Structures, and attracted third party litigation funding at record levels.

Joe also has an MBA from Ohio State University and a Bachelor of Science from The College of Insurance at St. John’s University.

Joe and Sharon reside in Columbus, Ohio. They have two adult children, Vickie and Joe, and four grandchildren, JJ, Marissa, Luca and Ellis.
