Dr. Leroy (Lee) David Nunery II is an accomplished executive and entrepreneur with nearly 50 years of unique experiences in insurance, corporate banking, capital markets, higher education, professional sports, public and private education, and with a family-owned electrical contracting firm, Leroy Nunery & Sons, Inc. In 2007, he founded PlūsUltré LLC, a strategic advisory firm that focuses on turnarounds, resource and talent development, governance, and corporate culture.
In 2017, Dr. Nunery authored a groundbreaking demographic and psychographic study entitled “The Journey of African American Insurance Professionals: Past and Present”, sponsored by the National African American Insurance Association (NAAIA) and Marsh Companies. The study has been recognized as an industry standard for analysis of the insurance industry’s DEI dynamics. In 2023, he authored “The Next Steps on the Journey,” which explored the impact of DEI programs and COVID on the trajectories of African American insurance practitioners. The findings from both studies led to testifying at a U.S. House of Representatives Finance Committee hearing, and engagements with many organizations, such as: Munich Re, Allianz, Gallagher, the American Property and Casualty Insurance Association (APCIA); the Independent Insurance Agents and Brokers Association (IIABA); the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC), the American Council of Life Insurers (ACLI); and the Million Women Mentors’ Women in Insurance Initiative.
From 2021 - 2025, Dr. Nunery was President of Evolution Advisors, LLC, a joint venture of Acrisure, Super Bowl champion quarterback Russell Wilson, Grammy Award-winning singer/songwriter Ciara and nine-time NBA All-Star Russell Westbrook. Evolution Advisors’ mission focused on providing growth acceleration and greater access to minority-owned insurance agencies and brokers.
Dr. Nunery has extensive governance experience and is a certified National Association of Corporate Directors (NACD) Director. He currently serves on the Board of Directors of Beneficial State Bank; Cheney University’s Council of Trustees; Indenseo; and the Foundation for West Oak Lane Charter School. He previously served on the boards of Blue Cross Blue Shield Association, Inc., Pitney Bowes, Inc., Savoy Bank (New York), Independence Blue Cross’ Regional Advisory Board and Consumer and Business Affairs Advisory Committee, Lafayette College, and the National Council of Washington University’s Gephardt Institute for Civic and Community Engagement. He is a Lifetime Member of the National Black MBA Association, Inc., and served as National President (1983 - 1987).
Among other recognitions, Dr. Nunery has been awarded the Wallace L. Jones Lifetime Achievement Award by the Consortium for Graduate Study in Management; the Lifetime Achievement Award by the National African American Insurance Association; the Alumni Achievement and Community Engagement Award from Washington University’s Gephardt Institute; and served as an Ambassador for Independence Blue Cross’s “Our Community. Our Health.” campaign, promoting better healthcare for Philadelphia’s diverse communities. Since 2002, Lafayette College has awarded the Leroy D. Nunery Award for Intellectual Citizenship to a senior student of color for leadership and academic excellence. Insurance Business America recognized him in 2020 as a Leader for Change.
In 2026, Dr. Nunery and Jeffrey Gallimore, former Chief Operating Officer, US National Accounts of Zurich North America, launched a brand-new podcast series called “The Next Move Business Playbook”, which covers current trends in career and professional development. The volume of positive reactions to the podcast are leading to Season 2, starting September 2026.
Dr. Nunery is a Managing Principal of Partner Captive Services LLC (PCS), a captive insurance management company. PCS’ provides expert advice to companies and organizations seeking guidance on alternative risk transfer and risk mitigation strategies.
Dr. Nunery is a graduate of Lafayette College (B.A., Honors in History, 1977), Washington University (M.B.A., 1979), and the University of Pennsylvania (Ed.D., 2003). He has participated in the Aspen Institute’s Executive Seminar; the Public Education Leadership Program (Harvard); and the Wharton e-Fellows Program (University of Pennsylvania). Dr. Nunery frequently speaks on diversity, educational access, leadership, and organizational development and has taught at The Fels Institute of Government, University of Pennsylvania (2008 – 2015) and Keller Graduate School of Management (1981 – 1984).
Leroy resides in Wyndmoor, PA, and is an avid golfer and loves to travel. He and his wife have three adult children.
